From Smelter to Suburb

REMC - Post #4 - Granite Oaks LCC.png

This #FlashbackFriday, we're looking back at another successful contaminated site re-development project at the location of the Flagstaff smelter in Sandy, UT. Historic smelting activities produced lead, gold, and silver bullion in the 1870s, and left the area highly contaminated with lead and other heavy metals.

REMC prepared an EE/CA (Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis) and a RAWP (Removal Action Work Plan) that resulted in the excavation, treatment, and off-site disposal of over 50,000 cyds of contaminated soils! Lead concentrations exceeded 100,000 mg/kg, which we reduced to below site-specific risk-based cleanup standards based on confirmation sampling and field XRF scanning.

Presently, the site is home to the beautiful neighborhood of the Granite Oaks Redevelopment at the base of LCC (Little Cottonwood Canyon) - check out the difference and let us know how we can help you clean up your property today!
